Employee/Employer Benefit Services
Focused Financial Group helps small and mid-sized employers in metro Atlanta set up and review retirement plans and insurance benefits, from a first 401(k) to executive retention plans. We work with the owner and the people who run payroll, and we meet with employees so the benefit is understood and used.
How does a 401(k) work for a small business?
A 401(k) lets employees save for retirement from each paycheck, pre-tax or Roth, and lets the employer add a match or profit-sharing contribution. The employer chooses a provider, a plan design (eligibility, match, vesting) and an investment lineup, and has fiduciary duties to run the plan in participants' interests. We help owners compare plan designs, understand costs, and hold the employee education meetings that drive participation.
Which retirement plan fits my business?
SIMPLE IRA and SEP IRA: lower cost and simpler administration for small employers and the self-employed.
401(k) and profit-sharing plans: higher contribution limits and flexible design for growing companies.
403(b) plans: for nonprofits and tax-exempt organizations.
Defined benefit plans: for owners who want to contribute more in the years before retirement.
ESOPs: for companies moving toward employee ownership.
The right choice depends on headcount, payroll, how much the owner wants to save and how much administration the business can take on.
What insurance benefits can a small employer offer?
Health, dental and vision plans; group life and disability income insurance; critical illness and long-term care coverage; and voluntary products employees can elect and pay for themselves. Group coverage is often less expensive per person than individual policies and helps with hiring and retention.
How do you reward key employees beyond the 401(k)?
Nonqualified deferred compensation and executive bonus plans let an employer reward a select group of managers or top performers. An executive nonqualified excess plan can help bridge the retirement savings gap that contribution limits create for higher earners. Tax-exempt organizations can use 457 plans for the same purpose. Each has different tax and funding features and should be reviewed with your CPA.
What is Workplace Financial Wellness?
A program that lets employers offer employees a personalized financial needs analysis at no out-of-pocket cost to the employer or employee, unless products or additional services are purchased. It includes worksite presentations on request and one-on-one meetings with an advisor.
